Tivoli All-Stars burn JDF
published: Wednesday | March 29, 2006

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

THE TIVOLI All-Stars snatched their third successive win in a row when they burned the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) 76-46 as KFC/bmobile National Basketball League action continued on Monday at the National Stadium courts.

Following up on an impressive 78-67 win over defending champions the St. George's Slayers on Sunday, back-to-back games seemed to have little impact on the All-Stars.

TIED UP

Though dead even after the first quarter at 17-17 and still tied up at halftime with 31 points apiece, Tivoli went on to outscore the JDF 21-9 in a pivotal third quarter and restricted them to a paltry season low of six points in the final quarter, while netting 24 points for themselves.

Damion Young led the way for Tivoli Gardens with 22 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks while big man Duken Brown made his contribution with 17 points. Feurtado Clarke was the high man for the JDF with 15 points and five rebounds.

The win sees Tivoli Gardens improve their record to 7-4 while the JDF have slumped to 3-8.

In another game on Monday night, the Arnett Gardens Rockers outgunned Runnin' Rebels 90-79 to snap a four-game losing streak. Delano Mallett had 18 points, four steals and five assists to lead the way for the Rockers while Ian Gooden had 17 points and eight rebounds.

Gregg Warlock had 18 points and Paron Brown had 16 points and 12 rebounds in a losing effort.

The staging of the Boys and Girls Championships will see all games originally scheduled for this week postponed.
