Hypocrisy by the Church?
published: Thursday | March 9, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

LAST WEEK I observed a group of persons protesting against the showing of a movie which glorifies the homosexual lifestyle, and it hit me that we are really a set of hypocrites!

Consider this! We live in a society where almost daily we hear or read of babies and children who are repeatedly sexually molested and sometimes killed by their fathers, stepfathers or other adult males whom they trust. We also hear about young and even aged females who are being savagely raped and sometimes murdered by men.

IRRESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOUR

The hypocrisy arises because these church people have not staged ONE protest against these reprehensible acts. Is it because rape and incest are 'straight sex' so that makes it OK? What about men who walk about from one woman to the next fathering children and leaving the women and children to fend for themselves? Are these church people saying that because 'straight sex' produced these children, the irresponsible behaviour is OK?

I am not for one moment saying that homosexuality is RIGHT. What I am saying is that there are a host of other sexual sins which should be condemned with equal vehemence. But the silence of the church is deafening!

All I am saying is that as Christians we have to be careful that in our zeal to promote righteousness, we are not cast in the role of persecuters. Otherwise, we will be no better than Hitler, who murdered a set of people simply because they belonged to another race.

I am, etc.,
