AS SENIOR detectives attempt to wrap up their investigations into the bloody slaughter of six family members who were murdered in St. Thomas on February 26, a man who allegedly washed blood from a car used to transport the body of six-year-old Jihad George McCool, has given a statement to the police.
Assistant Commissioner, Granville Gause, confirmed the latest development yesterday while also revealing that autopsies will be carried out on four of the victims in Morant Bay, St. Thomas today.
The four are Patrice George McCool, her children Sean Chin, Jihad and Lloyd Marshall George McCool.
Patrice's aunt, Terry-Ann Mohammed and her son, nine year-old Jesse O'Gilvie, were also killed in the incident.
Reports are that, since Jihad's body was discovered in a shallow grave in Rosemount, St. Mary last Thursday, the police have raided a small tourist resort facility in the parish in search of further evidence.
In the meantime, the suspect held in connection with the killings remains in custody without being charged.
NO DOUBT HE WILL BE CHARGED
"There is no doubt that he will be charged," said Superintendent Doric Sinclair, head of the St. Thomas Police Division.
Yesterday, a team of homicide detectives from the Spanish Town Road-based Homicide Department, led by Superintendent Wrenford Robinson, was scheduled to re-visit the crime scene in St. Mary.
It is alleged that a woman of unsound mind was paid a small sum to assist with the digging of the shallow grave. Jihad, who went missing on February 26, was found there in Rosemount, St. Mary, five days later. The autopsy report said she died of suffocation.
The suspect in custody led the police to the scene. While the police are yet to establish a motive for the killings, allegations are that the massacre may have been related to a drug deal gone sour.
Those allegations have, however, been denied by Mrs. McCool's husband, Paul, who is currently serving a six-month prison term for a drug conviction.
A source close to the family said the bloody incident may have been related to a domestic dispute.
