ST. ELIZABETH and St. Catherine gained first innings points over Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and Manchester respectively on yesterday's opening day of second round Supreme Ventures Super Cup matches.

Meanwhile, former West Indies captain Jimmy Adams and Jamie Trenchfield of Kingston and St. Elizabeth's Shawn Findlay scored centuries while bowlers Bevon Brown of St. Catherine, Portland's Carl Brissett and Manchester's Stephon Patterson all secured five-wicket hauls to collect $10,000 each.

At Kirkvine: For the second straight week defending champions Manchester lost out on first innings honours, but yesterday's performance was embarrassing as they were bundled out for 63 in 29 overs after winning the toss.

St. Catherine CC then recovered from 38 for five to post 122 (49 overs) for a first innings lead of 59.

The offspin pair of Brown (6-20 off 11 overs) and captain Tamar Lambert (4-11) wrecked Man-chester after the first seven overs of pace between Oniel Richards and national Under-19 player Andre Russell had yielded 26 runs.

Only Gary Graham, with 26 from 56 balls, reached double figures.

When St. Catherine batted, the pace of Stephan Patterson and Boris Hutchinson led to their undoing rather than Manchester's highly regarded spin attack.

BOWLED WELL

Patterson bowled well throughout to take 6-40 and also accounted for a run out.

Former national wicketkeeper/batsman Keith Hibbert top scored for St. Catherine with 34 from 74 balls in 113 minutes.

At Up Park Camp: Findlay scored 119, which came off 149 balls and included 14 fours and two sixes, to lead St. Elizabeth to 261-5, this in reply to JDF's 151.

Damion Ebanks, 66, supported Findlay while Mark Grey (3-77) was the pick of the Soldiers' bowlers.

When JDF batted, Findlay took 3-23, Wayne Simpson 3-62, Conroy Miller 2-15 and Ainsley Goss 2-23.

At Sabina Park: Adams, 158, and Trenchfield, 129, featured in a 171-run fourth wicket stand which saw Kingston advance from a precarious 64-3 to 407.

Adams, who batted for more than five hours and faced 249 balls, hit 13 fours and two sixes, while Trenchfield, Jamaica's Under-19 captain, faced 176 deliveries and hit 17 fours and a six in 201 minutes.

Bowling for Lucas, Gary Herbine took 4-73, Delroy Morgan 2-102 and Omar Burke 2-68.

RAIN-HIT MATCH

At Allan Rae Oval: Only 45 overs were possible in the game between Westmoreland and Melbourne.

At the first rain interruption at 11:30 a.m., Westmoreland were 25-0, but carried on when play resumed at 4:30 p.m. to 102-3. Ewan Andrews, 36, led the way against Leon Bent (2-38).

At St. Mary's Sports Complex: Portland's Brissett took 7-44 to bowl out St. Mary for 145. Robert Weir, 32, scored most runs for St. Mary.

Portland will resume today's final day on 50-1.
