Urban Knights, Denham Town Wizards remain unbeaten
published: Sunday | March 5, 2006

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

URBAN KNIGHTS and Denham Town Wizards remain the only unbeaten teams in the KFC/bMobile National Basketball League following big wins over the Blazing Panthers and Tivoli All-Stars on Thursday at the National Stadium courts.

Big man Anthony Farquharson led the way for Denham Town with another solid all-round performance. He poured in 23 points and had six rebounds, three steals and three assists as the Wizards, now 5-0, pulled away from the Tivoli All-Stars in a 74-68 victory, sending the West Kingston team to their second loss of the season.

The All-Stars got off to a slow start and found themselves down by 10 at the end of the first quarter, 27-17, and were never really able to recover. They were narrowly outscored in all the other three quarters by a red-hot Denham Town.

Omar Barnes had 10 points, five rebounds and four steals in a losing effort.

ENTERPRISING PICK-UP

Floor general Paul Oliphant continues to be the most enterprising pick-up so far this season for the Urban Knights. Oliphant, who signed from the Tivoli All-Stars at the beginning of the season, had 29 points, five rebounds and six steals in his team's 100-73 demolition of the Blazing Panthers.
Facing a small deficit at the end of the first quarter, 24-19, the Knights, behind Oliphant, rallied to take the lead midway through the second and distanced themselves by outscoring the Panthers by 11 points (31-20) in the third quarter and by 13 in the final stanza, to secure a 5-0 start to the season.
