Police Federation condemns six-y-o girl's murder
published: Sunday | March 5, 2006

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

CHAIRMAN OF the Jamaica Police Federation, Corporal Raymond Wilson, has condemned the killing of six-year-old Levanna Gordon, daughter of Corporal Levaughn Gordon.

Corporal Gordon was travelling with his daughter in a private motor car along Hartlands main road, off Old Harbour Road, St. Catherine, Thursday night when they were ambushed by gunmen carrying high-powered weapons.

The little girl was shot several times all over her body while her father was shot in his leg.

RUTHLESS CRIMINALS

Corporal Wilson said the attack on Gordon which resulted in his daughter's demise, showed that criminal elements had become ruthless in their pursuits against members of the police force.

The chairman said that he has implored members of the federation to give Corporal Gordon and his family moral support.

"I have known Mr. Gordon for a very long time; in fact, we come from the same parish, and what has happened to him has touched me in a very special way. Having joined the force 16 years ago, he is one of the hardest working policemen I have known."

The chairman vouched that the action taken against the policeman would not dampen the efforts of professional policing in Jamaica.

No breakthrough has been made in the shooting incident.
