Risk control workshop a success
published: Sunday | March 5, 2006

THE RECENT enterprise risk management (ERM) workshop in Jamaica, organised by the Caribbean Corporate Governance and Strategic Management (GovStrat) was a resounding success.

The first of its kind, the highlight of the workshop was the presentation by respected international risk management professional, Dr. Robert Mark. Over two days, senior risk professionals, chief financial officers, auditors and other professionals - under the co-ordination of GovStrat's CEO, Vindel Kerr - were exposed to robust case study discussions spanning various aspects of emerging and present risk management topics. These include an overview of ERM, market risk, operational risk, risk capital, stress testing and the future of risk management.

EXPLORING THE INTRICACIES

Well known atorney-at-law, Janet Morrison of DunnCox, presented an interesting paper on Directors and Officers exposure, while presenter Berome Edwards explored the intricacies of Internal Control and its associated risks.

The audience represented a mixed of executives from regulatory institutions, the private financial sector, retail industry, education sector, the health industry and others. Countries represented were Jamaica, Barbados and Anguilla. The next ERM workshop for the Caribbean is slated for Trinidad & Tobago in late May to early June.

In addition, GovStrat's next high profile executive seminar will feature two of the world's leading experts on Corporate Reputation and Brand Manage-ment scheduled for March 28-29, at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, to be followed by a one-day session on High Impact Strategic Planning on March 30, at the same venue.
