Blue Cross celebrates 50 years
published: Sunday | March 5, 2006

LAST WEEK major health insurance company, Blue Cross of Jamaica, held a thanksgiving service to mark the start of year-long celebrations to recognise 50 years of providing health insurance.

"I feel honoured to continue the work of the pioneer, our founder, Mr. Sydney Anderson, then Hospital Administrator for the University Hospital of the West Indies," said the president and CEO of Blue Cross, Professor Errol Morrison. "He began the process that led to Jamaica's introduction to what was to become the nation's largest health insurance provider."

More than 400,000 Jamaicans use Blue Cross as their health insurer.

"Blue Cross of Jamaica is 50 years strong because of the co-ordinated team effort that we are," said Blue Cross chairman, Dr. Henry Lowe. He continued, "We owe this milestone to the providers of care and service who bought into the innovation of a health care scheme and kept with us throughout the years."
