Hunt, new Under-17 coach
published: Wednesday | February 8, 2006

TOP SCHOOLBOY coach David Hunt is the new National Under-17 football coach effec-tive from February 6.

"It's a step in the right direction especially with the experience that he has had at the international level, and what he has done at the local level," said Wendell Downswell, the Jamaica Football Federation's (JFF) technical director, yesterday.

But Downswell was reluctant to reveal what would be done with Patrick 'Jackie' Walters, the former Under-17 coach.

"We will be making another announcement shortly as I don't want to pre-empt anything," he said.

It is understood that Walters, who currently coaches Glenmuir High in the daCosta Cup, will take sole responsibility of the Under-20 team.

Also, Donovan Hayles, coach of Harbour View, is expected to be made assistant to the technical director.

Hunt, who coached the Calabar High School team to victories in the 2005 ISSA/Pepsi Manning Cup and the Olivier Shield was pleased with his appointment.

"Well, it is a good feeling and a humbling feeling. It is always the dreams of coaches who coach in Jamaica or anywhere in the world to one day be given the opportunity to assist at the national level. I am quite happy and pleased to be given this opportunity," said Hunt.

"I have been involved with the youths, and I have made a special effort in that area. I have worked with the senior team before but I have always encouraged young players and given them the opportunity to express themselves."
