Falmouth resort to double in size
published: Wednesday | February 8, 2006

Fisherman's Inn Resort and Spa in Falmouth, Trelawny. - CONTRIBUTED

FISHERMAN'S Inn Resort and Spa at Rock district, near Falmouth in Trelawny, will more than double the room and suite count to nearly 40.

The project is due to start in the summer, and is expected to last for about a year, according to an announcement yesterday from the boutique resort's managing director, Rose Lanam.

The Trelawny-born business entrepreneur residing in Beverly Hills, California, did not disclose the cost of the development, but said the expansion would significantly boost the staff complement, and add international fishing and marina facilities.

NEW SUITES

A new block of over 20 rooms and suites - including a Hollywood-styled bridal honeymoon suite - is to be built, and the resort will be promoted in the international tourism destination marketplace of the United States, Canada and Europe as a wedding and honeymoon playground.

Fisherman's Inn has been on Trelawny's tourism landscape for many years, and has built a reputation as a gourmet restaurant and a small intimate inn.

The upgrade will also include a cutting-edge health spa and massage parlour, and new, expanded berthing amenities - to facilitate international fishing tournaments and yachts.

Fisherman's Inn will host a major fishing tournament this summer, Ms. Lanam announced.

LUMINOUS LAGOON TOUR

The property sits directly on the Luminous Lagoon, whose phosphorescent sea life has long been a major drawing card for scientists and tourists. Ms. Lanam said she plans to introduce a 'Luminous Lagoon Tour'.

Ms. Lanam acquired the resort 12 years ago and has carried out extensive renovation.

However, the major upcoming development will be what she describes as "a commitment of confidence both in Jamaica's overall tourism fortunes, and the projected hospitality trade and other industrial development announced for this particular area" of the parish of her birth.
