Waterhouse still too hot for Harbour View
published: Tuesday | January 31, 2006

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

HAYLES

THE HARBOURView juggernaut has been stopped in its tracks by the most destructive force around - a water house - at the National Stadium over the last seven days.

In fact, the seemingly impregnable Harbour View were rolling along so fast, the rest of the premier league was left well behind. So dominant were the Stars of the east that most people were handing the title to them.

But over the last month or so, their invincibility began to diminish. They haven't won a game in four outings and Waterhouse then made it six by defeating them in the end-of-round final and seven days later the Jackie Bell semi-final.

On January 22, 2006, Waterhouse, the only serious challengers to Harbour View's title ambitions, produced a classic display to dispatch Harbour View 4-1 on penalties after playing to an exciting 4-4 draw in normal and extra time.

Waterhouse returned one week later and a first minute strike by Roberto Fletcher led them to a 1-0 victory over and suddenly the juggernaut has been pierced.

STILL INVINCIBLE

But can Harbour View pick itself up and continue rolling in the premier league? Donovan Hayles, head coach, is not perturbed after their second consecutive loss and does not think his team's invincibility is gone.

"Well, that is to be considered but saying it and doing it, is another thing," Hayles said after Sunday's game. "It shouldn't. We are only going to play Waterhouse only one more time in the Premier League so we are just going to be steady".

MORE WINS NEEDED

"My only concern is that we need to start winning games now. It has been six games without winning and that is cause for concern, but I am not panicking because we know that once we get back on track, we will push the advantage home," added Hayles.

Hayles was surprised that his team couldn't get back after conceding a first minute goal.

"I didn't think it would be enough. We should have pulled back even a goal. This is how the game goes, we are still playing good football. We just have to tighten up certain ends and stop conceding goals and this will be the big difference in winning the trophy".

"Today is the first we have not really scored in a game and that is something that is unusual but I must say we dominated for 90 minutes but you have to score and prevent goals from scoring," noted Hayles.
