BLACK RIVER, St. Elizabeth:
Lloyd Corney, a Jamaican businessman living in the United States, has donated an endoscopy machine, worth about $2 million, to the Black River Hospital, in St Elizabeth. This vital piece of equipment was handed over to the hospital at a brief ceremony last week Tuesday.
Speaking with The Gleaner following the ceremony, Doctor John McRae, senior medical surgeon at the hospital, said the benefits of the machine included lower cost to patients who have digestive-related challenges, as well as faster diagnoses of similar conditions.
MINIMAL ACCESS
He said, "This will always assist us with minimal access to treatment of problems on the digestive system of our patients." Doctor McRae added that the equipment would be used in the facility's main operating theatre.
Mr. Corney said his commitment to giving back to his country of birth was very important to him and that he would always remember Jamaica. Corney, who was born in Ballards Valley in St. Elizabeth went to Wolmer's in his formative years. He has previously contributed $7 million worth of medical equipment to the hospital.
