Care the youngsters
published: Tuesday | January 31, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT HAS been agreed that the cause of the high rate of crime is due to the lack of a proper family life for these youngster and no father figure to guide the boys and no mother figure for the girls - as the parents left for foreign shores to improve the financial state for their children's future. Little did they know that money can't replace love and the pressure of parents to guide and comfort the children.

Remember years ago that Father Sherlock founded Boys Town where youngsters with no aim in life were trained and guided to become worthwhile citizens and those boys developed into worthwhile citizens! why can't something like that be established now? Take in the youngsters - say up to 14 years old. Find a suitable site and make sure the children do not have cellphones, and instruments like pocket knives, etc.

Make sure they can't go out of the compound to mix with unsuitable persons and also that no unsuitable person can enter said compound - Maybe the original members of the first Boys Town would contribute their advice based on their past training and remember Father Sherlock's success was due to the fact that he showed the boys real love.

I am, etc.,

V.R. deLANG
