Two die in bizarre incidents in Jamaica
published: Monday | January 23, 2006

WESTERN BUREAU:

TWO PERSONS were killed in bizarre accidents in Westmoreland and Trelawny on Saturday.

Dead are Keno Beckford 13, of Cottage District, Westmoreland, and Anita Johnson, 90, of New Hope district in Trelawny.

Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network's liaison officer for Westmoreland are that at about 12:15 p.m., Beckford went to a pond to catch fish. He was reportedly climbing over an iron gate, which leads to the pond, when it broke free from its hinges and fell on him.

He was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Darliston police are investigating.

In another incident, reports are that about 2:30 p.m., Ms. Johnson was walking in her yard when she stumbled and fell on a stick, which impaled her. She was taken to the Percy Junor Hospital in Mandeville, where she died. The Warsop police are investigating.
