Offshore educational institution to start operations September
published: Monday | January 23, 2006

ANOTHER OFFSHORE educational institution is to set up operations in September, says Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Senator Burchell Whiteman.

Senator Whiteman made the announcement Friday, during his opening contribution to the State of the Nation Debate in the Senate.

"Jamaica is becoming an increasingly attractive location for offshore educational facilities. A new institution, World Institute of Medical Services, is being granted a charter and will invest US$10 million to begin operations," he told the Senate.

In the meantime, he said, other projects are being examined in this field, and a policy towards offshore universities will be finalised to ensure transparent guidelines are in place.
