Contenders endorse PM's campaign stance
published: Monday | January 23, 2006

The four contenders for leadership of the PNP, (from left) Dr. Peter Phillips, Dr. Karl Blythe, Portia Simpson Miller and Dr. Omar Davies, share a joke at the National Executive Council meeting held at the Jamaica Conference Centre yesterday. - NORMAN GRINDLEY/DEPUTY CHIEF PHOTOGRAPHER

THE FOUR aspirants for leadership of the governing People's National Party (PNP) yesterday indicated they were ready to rev up their cam-paigns after finally receiving a definitive timeline for the election of a new party president.

They commended him for his stance against dirty campaigning.

"That's excellent," said Portia Simpson Miller of the Prime Minister's address. "(At) Team Portia, we have always been a model of good comradeship and keeping our campaign standards very high in terms of our behaviour and our attitude."

Dr. Omar Davies said: "I think that those rules have all been observed ... You'll notice that our (Davies) campaign hasn't been involved in any controversy."

Dr. Peter Phillips said: "I support everything that he (the Prime Minister) said. I thought he made quite a telling address and it has my total and complete support."

And according to Dr. Karl Blythe: "My colleagues and aspirants like myself will ensure that we have a very smooth election."
