SEBA UNITED continued their late charge up the tables in the 2005-06 Wray and Nephew National Premier League foot-ball competition yesterday afternoon, when goals by Delroy Ellis and the prolific Wilfred Smith gave them a 2-0 win over the struggling Constant Spring at Jarrett Park.
Despite taking all three points from the game, Seba United coach Heron Grey, who was notching his fifth win in the seven games he has been in charge of was not pleased with the performance as according to him, they strayed from the game plan which could have proven detrimental with a stronger opponent.
"It is all well and good that we got all three points from the game, but the team did not play to instructions," said Grey. "While we have gotten away with it against Constant Spring, it could have cost us had it been a stronger opponent."
The Seba team, which has won its last three games, has now moved to 25 points although they remain in eighth place, while Constant Spring, who are in serious relegation trouble, remain trapped at the bottom of the 12-team standings on 13 points.
The game started out quite scratchy with both teams taking quite some time to settle down. Constant Spring created the first positive attack in the 17th minute when Shawn Hunter sent Oniel Morrison clear with a superb pass but he was brilliantly dispossessed by an alert goal-keeper Alrick Henry.
REBOUND
After a narrow escape in the 35th minute when Constant Spring's Marlon Bennett pounced on a bouncing ball before the goal and turned it wide, Seba United took the lead in the 44th minute. Ellis latched onto a rebound following a brisk attack on Constant Spring goal and fired out of the reach of the goalkeeper, making the half-time score 1-0.
With time ticking away and Seba again in control, they struck for the second time in the 77th minute. Smith won possession on the right flank and sped past one defender before driving a well placed shot past the goalkeeper, making the score 2-0.
