ST. AUGUSTINE, Trinidad (AP):
TRINIDAD AND Tobago remained on course for an outright win yesterday over defending champions Jamaica, taking a lead of 371 runs into the final day of their Carib Beer Series clash at the Sir Frank Worrell Park.
After dismissing the tourists for 193 in their first innings, Trinidad and Tobago, rather than enforce the follow-on, elected to bat a second time and reached 178 for seven, with all-rounder Richard Kelly powering his way to 43 not out, to go along with his first innings 62.
Other useful scores came from Gregory Mahabir who made 36, Tishan Maharaj 26, and Lendl Simmons 22.
Young pacer Andrew Richardson was the most successful Jamaican bowler with three for 29.
SPIN AND PACE
An overnight declaration is on the cards with the spin and pace attack of the home team being given a chance to do the business for the second time in the match.
Earlier, Jamaica stumbled with the bat and were dismissed for 193 in their first innings replying to the home team's 386. West Indies spinner Dave Mohammed claimed four for 56, while Dwayne Bravo chipped in with three for 35. Richard Kelly had two for 42.
Only Marlon Samuels' 63 offered any resistance to the T&T bowlers.
Resuming at their overnight 98 for three, the Jamaicans lost nightwatchman Nikita Miller for eight, followed shortly by the demise of the other overnight batsman Tamar Lambert for 26. Dave Bernard Jr. needed all of 49 minutes and 40 deliveries to get off the mark and after all that hard work, fell cheaply to leave Jamaica tottering at the interval.
They struggled in the face of some tight bowling from the home side which restricted Jamaica to just 50 runs in the morning session, reaching 148 for six at the interval.
