We need selfless leaders

THE EDITOR, Sir:
JAMAICA IS so much of a disgrace that I even think it's hard to come back to my own country. It seems as if government officials and politicians are more concerned about their own pockets than the well-being of the people and the interest of the nation. Where are the Marcuses, the Sam Sharpes and the Nannys of our country - people who are disgusted with the condition of our society and have the heart and the guts to stand and do something about it?
We need to have more politicians and government officials with the same mindset to build the nation and to invest in the development of young minds and not officials who are only willing to deprive the poor of basic necessities, only to satisfy their own pocket.
Jamaica is plagued by violence and the people are growing more and more frustrated each day with the condition in which they have to live. So I call on all pastors, teachers, doctors, lawyers and every individual in Jamaica, to take a personal stand against the violence and work together for the common good, so we can all reap the reward of contentment and enjoy the satisfaction of peace.
I am, etc.,
