Linstead traffic cops on full alert this Christmas
published: Friday | December 16, 2005

Elgin Taylor, Gleaner Writer

TRAFFIC COPS stationed at the Linstead Police Station in St. Catherine are on full alert come this Christmas season.

According to Corporal Sebert Nelson, head of the traffic department in that area, the complement of four traffic cops at the station has been bolstered by 10 special constables who will be assigned beat patrol duty during this season.

Assistance will also come from the Bog Walk and Ewarton police stations to properly manage the traffic flow in the town.

He informed The Gleaner that he and his colleagues will be taking a "no-nonsense approach" during the Yuletide period.

He said that their presence is intended to be a deterrent to excessive speeding, overloading, drunken driving and the practice of motor cyclists riding without the requisite protective gear.

Corporal Nelson noted that other police personnel from the Linstead Station will target pickpockets and persons who may want to commit crimes during the festive season.

He concluded that the police's actions will be taken to facilitate the orderly movement of traffic in the town and its environs, and to ensure that legitimate persons can carry out their business in a safe environment.
