Look after our nation

THE EDITOR, Sir:
DONNA DUNCAN-SCOTT has hit the nail on the head. The surprising thing is that one wonders how the leaders in our society have continued to remain as such.
We in Jamaica have lacked peace in our nation for a long, long time; way too long. One man cannot stand alone. We need to come together with positive thinking and have no fear about it. It starts with the leaders.
I call upon all the leaders to stand firm and gain back their self-respect. It is never too late to clean up. Set a goal for 2006; one step at a time must be taken. Brainstorm together and come up with a good plan and follow it through. It has got to be done some way somehow. If not, then consequences have to be suffered, and the nation must see that as well as the rewards.
Parents, you are the leaders of the younger generation, and both the mothers and fathers have equal responsibility in bringing up their offspring in the right direction. If you falter along the way, our leaders of the nation need to take appropriate action. The children are the future leaders of our little Jamaica. Start to take a serious look at where we are headed if we continue to turn our backs on the poor, who are by no means fools, on the old, who are mistreated, on the murderers, drug dons, rapists and thieves who walk with their heads high as though they are the privileged and not in shame.
Look after our nation, you leaders, look after our nation.
I am, etc.,
