Pickersgill's plight

THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE DAWNING possibility that our Minister of Works has an unmatched gift hangs in the consciousness of many Jamaicans. It appears Robert Pickersgill has the unusual talent for provoking tempers. If my memory serves me correctly, this is the very man whose statement tag-lined the entire stretch of the Portmore causeway issue.
"Is it that time of the month" once more when politicians are twisting in fury because Mr. Pickersgill was "misunderstood"? What exactly is the misunderstanding when the parish councils are embarrassingly accused of receiving $4 billion in the 2004/2005 financial year for roadwork when, in fact, they received less than 1/4 of that amount? Is it to be taken by the public that the JLP-led parish council is guilty of squandering taxpayers' money?
It has been proven yet again. Our Transport Minister's speech patterns are in dire need of 'roadwork'! If that is putting it euphemistically - Minister, be careful what you say.
I am, etc.,
