BIOLOGICAL AGENTS such as pests and diseases are major concerns to all farmers as they have the capability of reducing the revenues a farmer can achieve.
To protect revenue, farmers use several pesticides and insecticides to control these agents. Sorrel, like any other cash crop is vulnerable to these agents, which affect the yield and quality of the product. To ensure the safety of the product for consumers the time these chemicals are added is critical.
Over time most of these chemicals dissociate into non-hazardous chemicals. But to ensure that all the chemical residues are to a minimum or no longer present on the product, Residual Pesticide Analysis can be done to establish the presence and concentration of any chemical residue left on the product. The main compounds of interest that are analysed for include those of malapthion, diazinon, chloropyrous and prophenofous coumpounds.
