US Embassy hosts lecture on press freedom
published: Thursday | May 5, 2005

IN RECOGNITION of World Press Freedom Day on May 3, the Public Affairs Office of the United States Embassy on Tuesday hosted a conference lecture between a group of journalists from local media organisations and famed American journalist, Charles Bierbauer.

Mr. Bierbauer, who is an Emmy Award-winning former correspondent for CNN and ABC News, communicated via satellite from the United States with the journalists who were gathered at the United States Embassy on Oxford Road, New Kingston.

Mr. Bierbauer fielded questions from members of the local media fraternity and engaged in animated discussions with them on a variety of issues, including matters relating to press freedom and media ethics.

The veteran journalist is now dean of the School of Mass Communications and Information Studies at the University of South Carolina.
