Doc facing rape charge back in court on May 19
published: Thursday | May 5, 2005

DR. MATT Myrie, the 31-year-old gynaecologist who is accused of raping a patient at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday and was ordered to return on May 19.

Dr. Myrie's lawyers Hugh Thompson, Thalia Maragh and Natasha Thompson applied to the court for copies of photographs that the police said they took at the crime scene. The lawyers said that they were of the view that the photographs would assist Dr. Myrie's case.

Dr. Myrie is on bail in the sum of $500,000 with one or two sureties. He is charged with two counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault. A preliminary inquiry is to be held into the matter.

It is alleged that on February 26, Dr. Myrie committed the offences on a patient in the ultrasound room at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital, to which he is attached.

Meanwhile, nurse Janet Spence, who is charged with attempting to bribe the complainant in Dr. Myrie's case, is on bail and is to return to court on May 18. She is accused of offering the complainant $500,000 to drop the case.
