Cargill's final appearance
published: Wednesday | May 4, 2005

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

NATIONAL FOOTBALL icon Peter Cargill will make his final appearance at Independence Park today but this time it will be in the National Arena and not the National Stadium when a thanksgiving service for his life will be held at 10:00 a.m.

Cargill's body will be available for viewing starting at 8:00 a.m. at the same location and the burial will take place at Dovecot Memorial Park in St Catherine.

Avrill Cargill, wife of Peter, requested that attendees wear cheerful colours and that no floral tributes are to be present.

Portia Simpson Miller, the Minister of Sports and Community Development, and Leader of the Opposition, Bruce Golding, will be among persons paying tributes at the service.

Among those who will be pall bearers are former national players and teammates Aaron Lawrence, Warren Barrett, Linval Dixon, Durrant Brown, Lenworth Hyde and Michael Tulloch.

Other pall bearers include friends from his alma mater, Camperdown, which won the Manning Cup in 1979 and again in 1982, including the triple crown. The players are Andrew Hines, Barrington Gaynor, Austin Cyrus, Michael Clarke, Anthony Tomlinson and Richard Greene.

A guard of honour will include players from Camperdown, Harbour View, Waterhouse and the current Reggae Boyz.

Most of the Reggae Boyz overseas who were interested in attending have faced difficulty in being released as their clubs are involved in crucial games for survival or promotion.
