POLICE INVESTIGATING the death of a six-year-old girl, who was raped and killed on the weekend, say a second man might be implicated in her murder.
Shaneika Anderson's body was found in bushes in Rae Town, east Kingston on Sunday. The police have since taken a man into custody in connection with her death.
However, yesterday, Deputy Superintendent in charge of crime at the Elletson Road CIB, Michael Ellis, told The Gleaner that based on discussions with the little girl's family and other information that they have received, investigators are looking into the possibility that another man might have been involved in the kidnapping, rape and murder of little Shaneika.
"We are investigating the angle of an accomplice," DSP Ellis admitted.
IN POLICE CUSTODY
DSP Ellis said the man who is now in police custody awaiting an identification parade is about forty years old and has been acting 'strangely.' He says however, that the man's name will only be released if he is charged.
The crime chief dispelled rumours that Shaneika and another child who was with her when she was kidnapped, knew the person who lured them out of the Coronation Market in downtown Kingston.
He said, however, there were indications that Shaneika could have been raped and killed elsewhere and her body dumped in the bushes where it was found.
Shaneika and a little boy were, reportedly, lured from the market where her mother did vending on Saturday evening by a man who promised them patties and drinks.
The little boy reportedly said the man took them to the park downtown and brought them the food then told him to go back to the market and Shaneika would follow soon.
Her body was found the next day by a little boy who was looking for his lost dog.
