Vando Palmer quits NWA
published: Wednesday | May 4, 2005

Omar Anderson, Gleaner Writer

PALMER

VANDO PALMER, communications and customer services manager at the National Works Agency (NWA), resigned last night.

His resignation takes effect on Friday.

For more than two weeks, Mr. Palmer has come under intense pressure to resign after being selected to represent the People's National Party (PNP) for the Central Manchester seat in the next general election .

"I have disengaged my services from the NWA," he told The Gleaner last night. "I set my agenda more than two years ago when I decided I would pursue my interest in representational politics."

Two weeks ago, Wayne Jones, president of the Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA), called on Mr. Palmer to relinquish his post as he was in breach of the Public Service Commission and NWA regulations.

Yesterday, the NWA communications and customer services manager, emphasised he was not forced to resign.

"It (decision to resign) was part and parcel of my agenda," he said.

"I am satisfied I have made a significant contribution to the NWA," he added.
