JAMAICA'S TOP-RATED go-kart driver, Martin Anderson, is expected to underline his supremacy in the Light Class events of the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) championship, which continues tomorrow at the Palisadoes International Raceway, starting at 11:00a.m.

Dubbed 'Fast and Furious', this meet promises to be exciting and action-packed, as some of the country's top drivers parade their skills in the new Rotax Max and 125 cc Shifter Karts.

Budding 18-year-old star Anderson is comfortably placed at the top of the table on 38 points.

He is in high spirits and seems ready to dethrone his younger rival, Timothy Stewart, for the Abe Ziadie Memorial Trophy which goes to JKA Driver of the Year.

"Everybody is a good competitor and I will be trying to be consistent as possible," said Anderson, who is hoping to make a big name for himself in motorsports.

Stewart, who is highly respected for his courageous efforts, is expected to be his closest rival, as the battle for suppremacy in the Light Class continues. Their main threats are the improving Kyle Gregg and the confident Dominic Moore.

Kyle, who is the son of the Jamaica Motoring Club (JMC) Driver of the Year, Gary Gregg, plans to give up golf and squash. His ambition is to one day compete in the World Rally Championship (WRC) event.

"I was told that go-kart was the basic, because there is where Michael Schumacer started," the 15-year-old Hillel Academy student noted.

Moore, who has demonstrated on more than one occasion that he has what it takes to be a winner, looked well-prepared for this race meet. His chances will depend on how well he manoeuvres his machine.

CLOSE CONTEST

According to Chris Myers, the contest in the Rotax/Shifter Class is 'tight'. He considers Joel Jackson and Sebastabian Rae as his main rivals.

"I am hoping to come out on top," said Myers, who is aspiring to one day make his debut at the nation's premier circuit racing track - the Dover Raceway in St. Ann.

In the meantime, rookie drivers Mario Mair, Tiffany Rae, Orneally Leahoung and Anthony Hibbert are all bubbling with confidence following their performance at last month's meet.

Newly-elected president of the JKA, Dwight Moore, said a lot will be done this year to improve the talent in the sport. He is hoping that the participants make good use of the Rotax/Shifter Class.

Other drivers to look out for are Andre Anderson, Peter Moodie Jnr., Matthew Smellie and Stephen Fitt.
