PNP courting Bethel Town
published: Sunday | November 21, 2004

SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland

PEOPLE'S NATIONAL Party (PNP) leader, Prime Minister, P.J. Patterson, and a top-ranking party team toured the Bethel Town division in Westmoreland yesterday to drum up support for the PNP candidate in next Thursday's by-election. The by-election is set to fill a vacancy due to the death of veteran PNP Councillor, Cleveland 'Singer' Brown.

The tour comes a day after Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) caretaker for the Westmoreland Eastern constituency filed a lawsuit claiming that the issue in court concerning the controversial voters' list is prejudicing the chances of the JLP candidate Harold Foote of being successful in the upcoming by-election.

Yesterday, Mr. Patterson addressed the private session of the PNP constituency conference in Darliston telling his supporters that he will be demitting office according to his schedule and will also be going as Member of Parliament for the constituency. Mr. Patterson handed over an ambulance to the Darliston Health Centre. This, he said, was a gift from a group of Jamaicans residing in Canada.
