The recipients of this year's awards include The Gleaner's Damion Mitchell, who won first place for his entry 'No school' in the radio category. Sandy Shippey won first place for her entry 'Just Listen' in television and Sasha Henriques for her entry 'All alone' in print journalism.
In an interview with The Sunday Gleaner, Mr. Mitchell said the win was an achievement which represents the start of many more significant milestones in his chosen career: "I hope it will pave the way for a smooth entry into radio but more importntly, I hope the message will be respected by the parents and guardians whom it targets."
For the first time this year students were awarded prizes in the social marketing and public relations categories. Kristy Quintal was awarded first place for 'Protect yourself for carnival' presented in the form of a radio commercial in the social marketing category and Andennis Simms for 'What is mental health?' in the public relations category.
