Maligning 'The Park'
published: Sunday | November 14, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

RECENTLY, I have been appalled to know that my lovely community, Woodford Park, situated in South St. Andrew, has been maligned as a high-risk inner-city area. On one occasion, I was almost denied credit status at one of Jamaica's most famous furniture stores at, of all places, Slipe Pen Road. Then, one of my lovely nieces, having applied and paid for copies of her birth certificate (express at that!), was rudely awakened to the abject reality that they, (the R.G.D.) do not make deliveries to Woodford Park!

LOVELY COMMUNITY

Let me set the record straight: Woodford Park is a lovely community that has produced some great sons and daughters of Jamaica, viz: Marguerita Mahfood, Don Drummond, Trevor Campbell (T.C.), Dr. Anthony Vendryes, Senator Dwight Nelson, Mutabaruka (Allan Hope), Noel Walcott, Clyde Walcott, George Walcott, the Khouris, the Changs, the Woodleys and the Taylors... and many more too numerous to mention.

So, before they start maligning The Park, I would urge them to research its history.

I am, etc.,

CLYDE A. WALCOTT
