JHTA backs crime plan
published: Saturday | October 23, 2004

THE JAMAICA Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) has congratulated the government on its initiative to recruit police personnel from overseas with expertise in intelligence gathering and forensic analysis, to work at the operational level.

JHTA President, Godfrey Dyer said yesterday that recruitment of foreign experts was one of the major recommendations which came out of the association's two-day retreat in October last year and "we are very pleased with the steps taken."

He said, "Although the number of policemen expected now might only be able to operate from the area level, we look forward to seeing increased recruitment which will allow at least one expert cop operating at the parish level."

"The JHTA is confident that this initiative will go a long way in curbing and reducing crime in Jamaica," Mr. Dyer said.

His comments came in the wake of a national broadcast by National Security Minister Dr. Peter Phillips on Thursday night outlining details of 'Operation Kingfish', the administration's latest crime initiative.
