published: Saturday | October 23, 2004

SUPREME COURT judge Zaila McCalla will be acting on the Court of Appeal as of Monday.

She was sworn in on Thursday afternoon by Governor-General Sir Howard Cooke at King's House.

Mrs. Justice McCalla will be the second female to sit on the Court of Appeal bench.

The first female to sit on the Court of Appeal bench was Ms. Justice Madge Morgan. She was appointed to the Court of Appeal Bench in 1986 and retired from the Bench in December 1992.

Mrs. Justice McCalla will be acting in the vacancy created when Mr. Justice Donald Bing-ham retired earlier this month.

Resident Magistrate Leighton Pusey will be acting as a puisne judge in place of Mrs. Justice McCalla.
