ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER Glenmore Hinds, a 27-year veteran of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), has been given the responsibility to execute the Government's newest crime fighting plan, Operation Kingfish.
Compared to the flamboyant Senior Superintendent Reneto Adams, the former head of the now defunct Crime Management Unit (CMU), ACP Hinds is considered to be 'a low-keyed' individual.
The CMU was disbanded by Police Commissioner Francis Forbes last June after its failure to fulfil its objectives, which were to target dons and deportees involved in crime and to tackle extortion and car-jackings and recover illegal guns. The CMU, for the Government, was also a public relations disaster, having been involved in a number of controversial killings and the subject of several high profile investigations.
The bespectacled officer said Operation Kingfish will be transparent and the officers under his command will be fearless in their pursuit of the perpetrators of violence and crime.
"We will uphold the rights of all citizens and mobilise their support in dealing with this problem," said ACP Hinds, who at present is the head of the intelligence arm of the JCF.
