JAMAICA PROMOTIONS Corporation (JAMPRO) was among six Trade Promotion Organisations (TPO) across the world which won awards at the first-ever World Trade Promotions awards held in Malta from October 1-2.
Jamaica was the recipient for the Best TPO from a small country, winning the award from 15 countries including Singapore.
The International Trade Centre (ITC) has commended JAMPRO for focussing on increasing the competitiveness of Jamaican exports, while providing market-led sector support for brand development, quality assurance, appropriate use of technology and the incorporation of best practices.
JAMPRO's clients export sales increased by 17 to 20 per cent in 2003.
Announcing the first time awards at the conference, executive director of the (ITC) said the awards were to "encourage excellence and to recognise 'best practices' for national economic development."
President of JAMPRO, Patricia Francis, was happy about copping a top prize at the first of such awards and spoke to the work of the agency and its mandate to increase exports and maintain presence in the international markets "while seeking to break into new markets which are feasible, at the same time, provide overall services."
