THREE GOALS by Jermain Allen led home team Tivoli Gardens to a 6-0 thrashing of Kingston Technical High School (KTHS) in yesterday's ISSA Pepsi/Sports Plus Manning Cup Group C action.
Allen has now scored 17 goals from six games to be the leading goalscorer in the competition, and kept Tivoli on top of the Group with 14 points, one ahead of Spanish Town High who also won yesterday, beating Norman Manley 1-0.
The prolific Allen scored in the third, 39th and 61st minutes, while Ricardo Stern (10th), Dwayne Reid 41st and the diminutive Shamar Brown in the 90th minute completed the rout.
Winning coach, Dave Clarke said: "It was a positive result as the purpose of the game is to score goals and none was scored against us.
"The positive thing is that we saw that the ball was moving around. That's my style of play, short passes and not holding onto the ball," Clarke added.
Meanwhile, Ossie Kerr, the coach of KTHS, could not spare a minute for an interview after being hit for six in a pathetic performance from his team.
"Can't spare a minute," was his terse response, probably trying to vacate the volatile community tense with the threat due to an ongoing war.
Amazingly, within minutes, the team bus was out of the grounds and the field was virtually empty for the exception of a few members of Tivoli's marching band, which was rehearsing.
The unbeaten Tivoli, winners in 1976 and 1999, started in a brisk manner and immediately opened the floodgates in the third minute when the skilful Allen got by his marker and scored with aplomb, calmly placing the ball wide of the goalkeeper.
Seven minutes later Ricardo Stern lobbed the goalkeeper to make it two and the writing was on the wall.
SHOT ON GOAL
In fact, it was not until the 36th minute that the lethargic KTHS got a shot on goal.
Tivoli, through captain Allen, Dwayne Reid the son of former national player and Tivoli stalwart Roderick 'Little Richie' Reid the lanky Lance DaCosta, Leonard Davis and Earl Robert, totally controlled the game and Tivoli were never threatened.
Two quick goals by the elusive Reid and the ever-dangerous Allen which pushed the score to 4-0 at the end of the half effectively killed off the contest.
KTHS, which started the day third in the group on seven points, lacked verve and looked tepid. Had it not been for poor shooting the score could have been in double digits.
Two further goals in the second half followed several missed chances in which Tivoli played some wonderful football. They hit the bar a couple of times and the fans were begging Allen to score his fourth goal as they anticipate that hen will set a scoring record this season.
