Commending the Port Antonio Fire Dept
published: Monday | October 4, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IN THE early hours of Sunday morning, I was awakened by my night security guard Earl, who was shouting, "Fire, fire!". Coming to my senses, I threw on some clothes and proceeded on my property to see where the fire was. I then realised that our stand-by generator house was in flames. On organising some containers of water and our fire extinguisher, I proceeded to the generator house.

My call to the Port Antonio Fire Dept. was answered immediately and they arrived in 15 minutes while I was trying to put out the fire.

They took over from there and quelled the fire, saving a situation that could have been very ugly. Minutes later, the San San constabulary arrived to see if they could be of assistance and to take a report.

I wish to express my gratitude to the Port Antonio Fire Dept. and the San San police, who, despite having to deal with an inordinate amount of emergencies in the aftermath of hurricane Ivan, were timely, efficient and courteous in dealing with the emergency that we had early that Sunday morning in San San, Portland. Respect due!

I am, etc.,
