Stayfree joins The Jamaica Cancer Society
published: Monday | October 4, 2004

Call for early detection

IN KEEPING with its commitment to supporting women's health and the health care community in Jamaica, Johnson & Johnson Jamaica has joined the Jamaica Cancer Society (JCS) in raising public awareness of the importance of breast health, as breast cancer awareness is highlighted during the month of October.

Through its signature brand, Stayfree, Johnson & Johnson is assisting the JCS in encouraging regular breast examinations and annual mammograms with an endowment of $100,000 towards the society's breast cancer screening fund. Funding will be used to provide on-site and mobile screening services to women in communities around the island, with emphasis on women in remote locales.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE

"With this year's campaign theme of 'Tell a Friend', we feel it is especially important to help the JCS ensure this important message on early detection reaches a good cross-section of women; especially women in some of our more rural communities", stated Denise Byfield-Dixon, Stayfree brand manager at Johnson & Johnson. "We are honoured to assist the society in conducting this community outreach effort."

Stayfree and Johnson & Johnson will participate in several activities to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we are also underwriting an additional 50 breast examinations and pap smears for women in Trelawny as the JCS mobile service makes its way to the community of Ulster Spring later this month. "The screening fund will help to bolster the message that early detection can save your life," stated JCS administrative director, Mrs.Marva Lee, in accepting Stayfree's sponsorship.

BREAST SELF-EXAMINATIONS

"This is especially important for women who may not have information on breast self-examinations and mammograms or access to appropriate services. We are pleased that Stayfree is helping to close this gap, and joining us in encouraging women across Jamaica to commit to early detection practices, and to tell a friend to do the same." Johnson & Johnson Jamaica Ltd. is a subsidiary of the consumer division of Johnson & Johnson, and has been serving communities across Jamaica for over 40 years. Among the Company's major consumer product areas are sanitary protection, skin and hair care, wound and oral care, non-prescription drugs and baby care.
