Be thankful we were spared
published: Sunday | August 15, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WE'VE BEEN spared again. As Hurricane Charley was upgraded from a tropical storm to a hurricane, many of us were unsure of the fate of our beautiful, beloved island. Nonetheless, others saw Charley as no threat.

Well, we are spared again from a catastrophic hurricane, and I think that it's becoming commonplace for us to doubt these hurricanes. I have to say that I am very thankful to God for sparing us again, as Charley later pounded our neighbours with rain, specifically Cuba and the Cayman Islands and later parts of Florida.

What we as Jamaicans need to realise is that we are spared. We, as a people need to be thankful and more appreciative of what God has blessed us with, and that's each other.

I am etc.,
