POEM OF THE WEEK
The journey of a 'Rising Star'

published: Sunday | August 15, 2004

Dedicated to Winston Lewis, a.k.a. Cavan

Yesterday, you were unknown and trapped
in your cocoon,

but you had a dream and you believed in
yourself.

At first, your dreams appeared short-lived,
however, you accepted rejection with gratitude as you viewed it as an opportunity to improve yourself.

Your talents did not go unnoticed, and thus you were given a second chance

Armed with the determination that there is
nothing training cannot do, you morphed from
a singer with diction problems to a comparable Donny Hathway.

You crooned your way into the hearts of the Jamaican people with your humility and
winning smile.

Your fans 'felt your pain' and were ecstatic
that "you had found the girl of your dreams".

And so just like the dawning of a brand new day, you are now free from your cocoon Today, you are a Star as the future belongs to those who follow their dreams.

 Suzette Shaw-Reid
