Republican, Democrat lovebirds wed
published: Sunday | May 30, 2004

By Janet Silvera, Gleaner Writer

Kim Alfano wipes away tears of joy and holds on to her husband, Robert Doyle. The two, Kim, Republican Consultants and Robert, a Democratic Consultant tied the knot at the Ritz Carlton Rose Hall last Sunday.

WESTERN BUREAU:

"IF I have the eloquence of people or of angels, but speak without love, I am simply a gong booming or cymbal clashing." 1st Corinthians 12:31-13:8A.

Politics took a backseat for Republican Kim Alfano and Democrat Robert 'Bob' Doyle, as the two nominated the Jamaican sunset to commence their passage into a new life, electing the five-star Ritz Carlton Rose Hall for the occasion.

A temperamental weather pattern hovered over the city of Montego Bay last Sunday, but by 4:30 p.m. the skies cleared beautifully and allowed the two Washington D.C. socialites and their A-lister group of 120 "movers and shakers" to stage a magical and memorable wedding ceremony on the hotel's grand gazebo.

The story of the two lovebirds competes head-on with the beautiful wedding ceremony; the fabulous cocktail reception and the unique dinner party on the Ritz's white sandy beach. At the rate of space availability; I will take you on the exceptional journey.

It was Bob who first saw Kim on television in early 2001. Kim was defending her friend and client John Ashcroft against Democrat attacks. As he worked at his desk, the chatter from the TV was mostly background, but something made him look up a healthy debate between a young Republican woman and Patricia Ireland, president of N.O.W. This girl was doing a pretty good job for her side and, Bob noticed, she was kind of cute too.

Fast forward to October 2001; Campaigns and Elections Magazine is the trade magazine of the political world. This month the two featured were none other than Kim Alfano for the Republicans and Bob Doyle for the Democrats. When Bob saw this he chuckled. How ironic. Here was this woman he had meant to call. It was surely a sign. He resolved to call, but he didn't not yet.

Lots and lots of time goes by it's now January, 2003 and the two finally meet. But still Kim and Bob would not go out not yet.

FELL MADLY IN LOVE

On February 2, 2003, Kim broke up with the man she had been seeing for over a year. On February 4, Bob Doyle called Kim, out of the blue. Well, long story cut short the two finally went out and fell madly in love.

At about 5:30 p.m. last Sunday afternoon, Bishop Charles Dufour, assisted by Rev. Ronald Giannone, officiated at the tear-jolted ceremony, pronouncing them Mr. and Mrs. Robert Doyle.

A cocktail reception followed on the east lawns of the hotel and dinner on the white sands. Guests were treated to 'Old Navy' flip flops for the beach affair.

In the true Ritz Carlton way, a beautifully decorated three tier chocolate sponge with raspberry filling cake stood at attention on its own stage.

Dinner included a scrumptious bouquet of tender greens, endives, yellow and red tomatoes, goat cheese roasted apples with beetroot vinaigrette. Hot and cold stations with chilled seafood, marinated pork loin, spicy jerk chicken breast and beef Wellington with exotic mushroom sauce played host to the appetites.

Attendees included the bride's godmother, Michelle Rollins, her mom, Delores Alfano, Dr. Edgar and Mrs. Patricia Polk, parents of the groom Congressman Jon Christensen and his wife, former Miss America, Tara. A.J. 'Boots' Brown made sweet love to the ears with his music.
