Break the bottleneck
published: Sunday | November 23, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE FOLLOWING suggestions are beamed at the persons responsible for traffic flows in Kingston and are aimed at reducing some serious bottlenecks that currently exist.

Anyone who has to use Hope Road between Lady Musgrave Road and Devon House at peak hours is only too well aware of the serious bottleneck that is faced by motorists wishing to proceed onto Waterloo Road. I submit the following suggestions which I believe will reduce the problem.

Remove the restriction that now exists on Ardenne Road for traffic going into Trafalgar Park.

Re-instate right turns from Hope Road onto Kingsway controlled by an arrow light as previously existed.

Allow vehicles travelling down (west) on Hope Road to Waterloo Road to have two lanes turning right at peak hours. At these times the left lane would be used for traffic for Half-Way Tree, while Abbeydale could be used for traffic going towards New Kingston. A traffic light synchronised with the lights at Hope Road/Waterloo Avenue intersection would allow easy access to Trafalgar Road from Abbeydale.

In addition to the foregoing I would also suggest that South Avenue be made into a one-way, with two lanes, westbound to Constant Spring Road.

Allow vehicles coming from Red Hills Road to enter West Kings House Road as obtained previously.

I feel sure that if these suggestions are implemented we will see a great improvement in traffic flows in these areas.

I am, etc.,
