PARIS, France:
IT'S NOW official. World junior 200 metres champion Usian Bolt will not line up in the 200 metres at the ninth IAAF World Athletics Championships in Paris.
Following a late night team meeting which ended near midnight at the Athletes Village, team manager Ludlow Watts said Jamaica's three competitors for the 200 metres will be 2001 silver medallist Chris Williams, Latonel Williams and Ricardo Williams.
Bolt, who missed several crucial days of training because of an attack of 'pink eye' less than two weeks before the championships, is, according to Watts, "still being assessed".
"It has also not been determined yet whether Bolt will run in the relay as certain other procedures have not been confirmed," Watts said.
These procedures, he said, included his current form and how he measures up in daily practice with the other athletes.
The heats of the men's 200 metres will be run tomorrow while the 4x100m and 4x400m heats are on Saturday.
