Reckless, irresponsible behaviour
published: Tuesday | August 26, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I HAVE become very concerned over the frequent accidents on our roads due to faulty overtaking. Because of this reckless and irresponsible behaviour, several lives have been lost unnecessarily, and serious injury done to several persons.

Just recently, three persons going about their business, were killed, and others injured, some seriously I have no doubt. And this situation happens much too frequently.

My concern is, what happens when these accidents occur? Are the drivers responsible for these accidents punished beyond being prosecuted for dangerous driving?

I think their Driver's Licence should be suspended for a long period, or even taken away, so they won't get the chance to send people to their deaths without a cause. They should serve a prison term, so that others would be dissuaded from overtaking a line of traffic!

I am, etc.,
