THE EDITOR, Sir:
I MUST congratulate the farmers for producing such lovely agricultural produce and livestock that were displayed at the Denbigh Show, although most parishes had experienced drought conditions.
The information released is that the show was a success also in terms of finance and I am now to suggest that the Parish Association Branches should be given some financial assistance to invest. This could be done by selecting a group of farmers who would produce specific crops for the show which would be sold and funds returned to the Association on a recurring basis.
I am suggesting that the showground be also used for other purposes so as to earn funds for its general upkeep as most of the pavilions need to be refurbished, among other things.
Another area that could be looked at is the time of judging for the Home Economics displays where things such as pastries, etc. with limited shelf-life could be judged the first day of the show and sold afterwards rather than being left for longer period after which they have to be discarded.
I believe that with the new and vibrant President, the JAS will play its role well. Agriculture should be booming at full force instead of staggering.
I am, etc.,
