PM defends Paulwell before evidence

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Regarding the monumental disgrace that is the NetServ issue, the rest of the nation may wait forever for reports from Auditors/Receivers or any other pink spawn of migratory fish on offer.

However, the Prime Minister has not bothered to await these tools of obfuscation to declare that Philip Paulwell has nothing for which he need account to the nation so I will not wait to declare that he does. Accepting the Prime Minister's verdict of youthful exuberance for the moment, has not this youth, in his exuberance, cost the nation over $200 million? Is this not sufficient reason for him to be disciplined in some way? I have yet to hear Philip Paulwell so much as promise to curb his enthusiasm in the future.

I can never forget the British Finance Minister who was made to resign for borrowing and repaying money from a friend who turned out to be an important founder of the party. Will Philip Paulwell be asked to repay the nation out of his own exuberant resources? Will he be asked to pay any price at all? Or, is youthful indiscretion its own price.

I am, etc.,

GORDON G. ROBINSON

69 Lady Musgrave Road,

Kingston 10
