Why not hanging?

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WE welcome the new Minister of National Security and we hope the successes he enjoyed at the Ministry of Transport and Works will follow him in his new initiative.

Our fears and anxiety, the country's economic prospects rest on the hopes of his success.

The brutal and satanic event of the United States September 11 experience has shown the depth of wickedness evil men will descend.

The American administration backed by the people and, indeed, countries of the civilised world, responded with appropriate ruthlessness.

The price may be heavy, ordinary people will be hurt in the process of defeating the evil, but we dare not shrink from the task.

The Jamaican equivalent is the ruthless gunning down of our citizens by gunmen. These cowards will not cease their evil practice until we as a nation and people employ similar ruthlessness as America to defeat this evil.

I implore the new Minister of National Security, push heavily for the reintroduction of hanging. This is our immediate response to these evil men who are driving fear in the hearts of our people.

Like the Americans, take the immediate action and, of course, work robustly on the long term.

Like Trinidad, hang them now! Our people will stand up and applaud.

I am, etc.,

A.S. BYFIELD

Gayle P.O.

St. Mary
