THE RAINS which have affected the island since last week ruined all but one of the Pepsi/Sports Plus Manning Cup matches yesterday.
For the second consecutive day, crucial Manning Cup games were affected as on Friday the doubleheader scheduled for Ferdie Neita Park was called off because of a soggy outfield.
None of the three teams in with a chance of booking their places in the Manning Cup semi-finals were able to take the field yesterday due, again, to waterlogged fields.
However, Group Three out-of-contention teams Tivoli Gardens and Waterford battled to a 1-1 tie in the first match of a failed doubleheader at Ferdie Neita Park, Braeton.
The second game at Ferdie Neita Park between Group Two leaders Spanish Town and Holy Trinity was called off as a result of heavy rain before the kickoff. Spanish Town only need a win to cement their places in the semi-finals.
The day's second doubleheader at Constant Spring was postponed several hours before the scheduled 1:30 p.m. start due to waterlogged a field.
Group One leaders Jonathan Grant and Bridgeport Comprehensive, who were scheduled to be in action at Constant Spring, only need to avoid defeat to book their places in the semis.
Matches scheduled were Norman Manley against Jonathan Grant and high-riding Bridgeport Comprehensive against Charlie Smith in a Group Three top-of-the-table clash.
The winners of the three groups plus the best second-placed team will qualify for the semi-final round.
The matches will be played between tomorrow and Tuesday depending on the availability of the grounds at Ferdie Neita Park and Constant Spring.
