Outside help needed
THE EDITOR, SIR: MY solution to the crime and violence in Jamaica is a rather harsh one. There are bad politicians and there are not so bad ones, and God knows some of the not so bad ones have tried to clean up the system. But until all the politicians are men enough to cross party lines to enforce certain rules, things are going to be the same or worse. I think there should be a joint commission made up of at least 75 per cent non-Jamaicans to work in tandem with the local authorities. I know that we are an Independent nation, but because of the poverty level in Jamaica it is almost impossible for people in need to say no to easy cash and to continue to support the drug lords and so-called area DONS. Why is it that the only public sector in Jamaica that runs with a LITTLE respect and discipline is the United States embassy? With all the sophisticated policies put in place why can't we go to the passport office or even the birth certificate office and conduct normal business. Well, my answer is the United States Embassy conducts normal business because you have less "locals" making business decisions. We as Jamaicans have to swallow our pride and allow our lovely nation to get help where we can. We can't allow barrister and lawyer to try cases on their own accord, we cannot allow local Dons and drug lords to be the breadwinners for our people. I am going to close by saying "Politician, justice system, clergymen and local citizens if you are not doing your job well someone else is going to do it for you."
